Ratio Eight Original - Materials Breakdown

Everything you need to know about the materials used in the Ratio Eight Series 1 — what materials we use and what comes into contact with hot water.

  • Water Tank — constructed of Eastman Tritan TX2001, a high-quality, shatter-resistant, BPA-free polymer plastic. No hot water contact. Click here for detailed information about the water tanks we use!
  • Water Lines — handblown borosilicate glass. Hot water contact.
  • Gaskets/Tubing — FDA-approved silicone gaskets and tubing are used to connect the glass water lines internally. We use the bare minimum needed, and only two gaskets are in the hot water pathway. Hot water contact.
  • Water Line Connector — a small piece of a BPA-free polymer is found underneath the heating element. This component facilitates the movement of cold water from the glass water line to the heater. This material was chosen for its ability to create a tight seal and prevent leaking. No hot water contact.
  • Shower Head — 304 stainless steel. Hot water contact.
  • Ratio Glass Carafe — handblown borosilicate glass. Hot water/coffee contact.
  • Ratio Eight Original Thermal Carafe — double-wall stainless steel interior, cast stainless steel handle and spout. Hot water/coffee contact.
  • Ratio Eight Ceramic Dripper and Ratio Eight Ceramic Catcher — constructed of porcelain, with a layer of gloss that is part of the base-throwing layer of clay. It has been tested and verified by Intertek to be lead-free and cadmium-free. Hot water/coffee contact.
  • Ratio Carafe Heat Lid — crafted from FDA-approved silicone, this lid is compatible with both the Ratio Glass Carafe and the Ratio Eight Original Thermal Carafe. Its purpose is to retain the temperature of your coffee, though it's not required for the brewing process. Hot coffee contact.
