Ratio Eight Series 1 Carafe Cleaning / Disassembling


1. To begin a quick cleaning service for your thermal carafe, firmly grasp the handle with one hand and the dewar body with the other. The handle is threaded to the dewar body with approximately 35 ft.-lbs of torque.

2. Simply twist the handle clockwise. Once “cracked,” go ahead and set the thermal carafe on the counter to avoid dropping it.

3. Finish unscrewing the handle from the dewar body. Once the handle is unscrewed,  carefully set the handle down on a clean, soft surface to avoid any scratching.

 


4. Clean all parts, including the rubber gasket. Remove any coffee oil or buildup by washing the gasket and internal carafe surfaces with warm, soapy water. Rinse well and allow the parts to adequately dry. To remove stubborn coffee oils, we recommend using Clearly Coffee from Urnex to safely remove and prevent coffee oil buildup.   • Insert a paper filter into your filter basket or dripper. Add one packet of cleaning powder into the paper filter and run 4 cups of water through your Ratio machine.
  • After the cycle, allow the inside of your carafe to soak for 5-10 minutes, then discard the solution and thoroughly rinse with clean water.
  • For a deeper clean, use a brush to scrub the inside of your carafe after soaking.

5. Reinstalling the gasket: When looking at the inside of the gasket, you’ll notice that there is both a thinner and a thicker side. With the carafe’s handle facing up towards you, the thinner side of the gasket must be facing down, towards the treads. Ensure that the gasket is securely fastened on the first tread.

6. Reinstall the handle by carefully and evenly threading it onto the dewar body. Slowly thread the handle until it is hand-tight. Once hand-tight, twist a bit further with pressure to ensure a tight seal. Try not to over-tighten the two parts to maintain the integrity of the gasket and threading.

7. Test the seal by filling your carafe with hot water, and slowly pour as you would with your coffee. Ensure no water is leaking from the slight gap between the dewar body and handle.

8. You’re now all set to brew some delicious coffee with your Ratio and keep the brew hotter for longer.
