Troubleshooting uneven water distribution

You can learn a lot from the spent coffee grounds left behind once brewing has been completed. The stainless steel shower head on the Ratio Six is designed to ensure even saturation across the entire brewing cycle. Once brewing has finished, the coffee bed should appear even with no dry spots. 

If your coffee bed appears uneven, or you notice that water is not exiting from all parts of the shower head, the following troubleshooting steps can help you diagnose the source of the issues and unlock the most extraction from your brews.

Is your brewer level?

The shower head on your brewer is only as level as the counter that it rests on. If you are seeing an uneven distribution of water, the first thing to do is break out your level and confirm that your Ratio Six is sitting on a level plane.

How often do you run a cleaning cycle?

If you have not established a regular cleaning cycle, limescale can build up all along the hot water pathway. When limescale builds up in the shower head, it can block some of the outlets and prevent even distribution. In most cases, a few cleaning cycles can resolve the issue. For more serious issues, our techs are always happy to perform a deep clean to restore your brewer.

Which recipe are you using?

A dose that is too large for the amount of water used, or even the brewer in general, may not become fully saturated during the bloom or brew phases. The chart above shows an overview of our suggested water-to-coffee ratios, alongside the corresponding brew recipe that will deliver the best results for even extraction.
