Troubleshooting issues with your Ratio Eight Original Carafe

In this article, we will be covering a couple of issues that you might come across when using the Ratio Eight Original Carafe. We'll include our best troubleshooting tips below, but if your issue isn't covered or if the troubleshooting doesn't resolve the issue, please don't hesitate to reach out to our support team via the contacts at the bottom of this article.

Water leaking from the handle

This issue can occur when the gasket or seal that attaches the handle to the carafe becomes damaged or slips out of place. If you are experiencing this issue, please reach out to our team at hello@ratiocoffee.com with a picture or video, and we can help you with the next steps to get this resolved.

Trapped water / Water leaking from the base

In the base of the Ratio Eight Carafe, there is a chamber that insulates the double-walled insulation from shocks and houses the magnet that communicates to the brewer that the carafe is in place. While the tolerances that seal this chamber are tight, water can enter this chamber and become trapped if your carafe is submerged under water or held under a running faucet for an extended period of time.

If you are experiencing this issue, the water can be drained by tipping the carafe at an angle and allowing it to rest. To avoid experiencing this issue again in the future, we suggest following the cleaning instructions in this help article.

Brewer not registering

The Ratio Eight Thermal Carafe has a magnet in the base which your brewer uses to detect the presence of the carafe prior to brewing.

If your Ratio Eight is no longer detecting your carafe, the magnet may have lost some of its charge and may need to be replaced. To confirm whether or not this is the issue that you are experiencing, you can place a kitchen magnet on the center of the platform. If either orientation of the magnet enables brewing, please reach out, and we can send you a replacement magnet for your carafe to resolve the issue.

If you are attempting to use your thermal carafe with a Ratio Six, the carafe can not be properly centered on the base and centered under the shower head at the same time. To brew with this configuration, you will need to purchase a Ratio Brew Mat, which will neatly fit into the indentation in the base for the carafe to activate the sensor and allow you to properly center your carafe. As an alternative, you can use a kitchen magnet to trick your machine into thinking that the carafe is in place.
